Fluoride Treatment
While we recommend you avoid anything hot or crunchy for four to six hours after treatment, you can otherwise eat or drink normally after your fluoride treatment.
Amalgam Filling
For filling integrity, we recommend waiting at least one hour before eating or drinking. To prevent accidental injury to your tongue or cheek, we recommend waiting to chew until the anesthesia has worn off and you have regained sensation. If you need to eat, choose soft foods that don’t require chewing, like yogurt or a smoothie.
Tooth-colored Filling
While your tooth-colored filling will be fully set when you leave our office, we recommend waiting to chew until the anesthesia has worn off and you have regained sensation to avoid biting your tongue or cheeks. If you need to eat, choose soft foods that don’t require chewing, like yogurt or a smoothie.
Air Abrasion & Sealants
As these procedures require no anesthesia and sealants will be cured when you leave our office, you can eat and drink normally after treatment.
Crowns
If you’re fitted with a temporary crown while waiting for your permanent crown to be created, avoid foods that are hard and sticky. Once your permanent crown has been placed, we recommend waiting until the anesthesia has worn off to eat foods that require chewing.
