The Rest of the Story!
Beginning in May of 2014 we started a celebration of my 30 years in dentistry. Each month I have written a blog taking you through the history of our dental practice here in Wayland. This month I will wrap up the history portion, and next month I’ll try and look into the future to see what is in store for the dental team of Dr. Bruce Sexton.
As you know from reading this history, we started out as a small office in the corner of what is now the expanded Wayland Hotel. In 1990 we moved to our current location in the Wayland Professional Building. By 2002 we were feeling cramped. The hygiene department was very busy and the business team was running out of room for records, equipment and personnel. A decision was made to expand our office into the suite next door.
After making sure the current tenants had found a place to go and time to move, we designed and executed a new office floor plan. We added two chairs for exclusive hygiene use. Our lab area was expanded to include an instrument sharpening station as well as additional storage. We moved our lunch/meeting area to a bigger room and turned our former lunch space into a state of the art sterilization area. We also added additional office space and a bigger waiting area. The doctor also got a new office with a window. We completed this renovation in 2003. A few years later we added a consultation area to better serve our patients.
In 2013 we felt the need for an update to our facilities. We opened up our waiting/business/consultation area and remodeled the whole space. This gave us more waiting area, a kid’s play area, additional consultation space and a front counter that was more patient friendly. We hope you enjoy the updated look as much as we do.
Next spring we will have our 5th employee celebrate a 20 year anniversary with our practice. These five are the backbone of our team. They work hard; they lead by example and come to work each day ready to serve our patients with caring and enthusiasm. In the last year and a half we have added four “new” employees. While they may be new to our team, they each bring experience and knowledge that adds new dimensions to our team. Their input has helped us improve our patient experience as well as increase our productivity. They are great additions to our dental family. The rest of our team has been here anywhere from 3-14 years. They are the core that holds the team together. They know the value of experience and they also recognize the need for growth and change. They help our team blend together and we are so very lucky to have each one of them. They are the leaders taking us forward.
That takes us from our humble beginnings in 1984 to our current status in 2014. I am surrounded by an awesome team that provides great dentistry and an extraordinary dental experience to our tremendous family of patients. We are only here thanks to the trust and support of our patients. We thank everyone for choosing our office, whether you’ve been here for 3 days or thirty years. We are honored to help you value and achieve optimum health now and throughout your lifetime.
Thanks for reading,
Dr. Bruce
